A custom clan crest is the fastest way to make your clan look established. Lineage 2 is picky about the image format, though — get the size or colour depth wrong and the client simply refuses it. Here is exactly how to do it.
The format Lineage 2 requires
- Clan crest: 16 × 12 pixels
- Ally crest: 8 × 12 pixels
- File type: 256-colour BMP (8-bit). Not 24-bit, not PNG.
Any image saved outside these rules will be rejected in the crest window, which is the number-one reason people think "crests are broken".
Fastest way: use our crest maker
You do not need Photoshop. Our free Lineage 2 crest maker lets you upload any picture, crops and resizes it to 16×12, and exports a ready-to-use 256-colour BMP. Download it and skip straight to the in-game step below.
Manual method (Paint)
- Open your image in an editor (MS Paint works fine).
- Resize the canvas to 16 × 12 pixels.
- Go to Save As → BMP and choose 256 Color Bitmap.
- Save it somewhere simple, e.g.
C:\crest.bmp, using only English characters in the name.
Uploading it in-game
- Log in as the clan leader.
- Open the clan window and click Edit Crest (or Set Crest).
- Enter the full path to your file, e.g.
C:\crest.bmp, and confirm.
The crest appears next to your clan name and on your members. To add an ally crest, the alliance leader repeats the same steps with an 8×12 image.
Troubleshooting
- "Invalid file" → it is not saved as 256-colour BMP. Re-save with the correct colour depth.
- Crest not showing for members → they need to relog once after you set it.
- Blurry crest → 16×12 is tiny; use bold shapes and few colours for a clean result.
